Israel is about to enter the Promised Land after the rebellious generation has died off. As the stand at the door ready to go in Moses preaches them a series of sermons to prepare them for the days to come. The preparation was necessary because as much as these were not the people who had rebelled against God the first time they are the people who have become accustomed to the blessings of God. In fact, they felt entitled to them.
Their shoes had never worn out, they had never missed a meal, water came out of rocks, clouds and fire kept them warm and sheltered. They had been spoonfed their faith from childhood.
Moses takes the opportunity in the book of Deuteronomy to remind them of their faithful God who loves them and has made a covenant with them. This generation reminds me so much of myself and others who have grown up attending church or have a religious background. We can be so prone to overlook the faithfulness of God.
The miraculous part of God's faithfulness is what we have done to deserve it. Absolutely nothing! Just think about it, we abuse His grace and take for granted His mercy so often and yet He is still faithful. Not because it's what He does but because it's who He is! God is faithful!
We have our nice homes, our new cars, and even a nice church that we enjoy and yet we so often lack the understanding of how many times God has been faithful to us in spite of our unfaithfulness to him. He is truly the faithful God!
