A post from a few years ago...
First of all, let me start out by saying how excited my family and I are to be a part of the community. A little less than a month ago we moved to Mokena after we were called to pastor the Mokena Baptist Church. It has been a whirlwind of packing moving and adjusting but the one constant has been the kind, gracious people of Mokena. We look forward to being a part of the community.
As I think of the future for Mokena Baptist Church as it relates to the community I am drawn to Philippians 3:13 and 14 where the Bible says, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. These verses give us a great outline of how to live our lives with passion and purpose.
First, we are to forget those things which are behind. Not that we are not to enjoy memories or learn from history but rather the things which are in the past should not rule our lives today. This is speaking equally of successes and failures. Let the past teach, instruct, encourage and uplift you but don’t let it rule your life.
Second, we see we are to reach forth unto those things which are before. The verse instructs us to press toward the mark. So often we can get stressed out with the future. We let the clouds of tomorrow steal the sunshine of today. God wants us not to dread the next day but press forward to the mark He has for each of us.
In planning for the future of Mokena Baptist Church this is our passion. Not that God would give us big buildings or lots of material wealth but that in each and every aspect of our service to Him and the community we would press toward the mark He has for us. By striving for His goals we will find true success. We want to be His representatives to the people of Mokena and do as He would have us to do.
Mokena Baptist Church has been an integral part of the community for over 40 years. Perhaps you’ve seen our signs or driven by our steeple. Why not stop by for a visit. The church has a strong history that has laid a foundation for a promising tomorrow. We rejoice in our heritage and look forward to our future. We are a traditional church where we sing the hymns of the faith and open the Bible every Sunday to hear preaching from God’s unchanging Word. We believe that the greatest life is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are so excited to be here and look forward to many years of serving Christ and the community through the ministry of Mokena Baptist Church. If we can be of help to you or if you are searching for a church home please feel free to visit our website at mokenabaptist.org or stop by for a visit on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. You are always welcome.
